‘BIG Event’ brings students together to serve community

Sandbag Central is one of the places NDSU students are volunteering today for the BIG Event. The annual service event is a way for students to thank the community for its support.

More than 800 NDSU students are volunteering today as a way to thank the Fargo-Moorhead community for its support. As part of the organized effort, named the BIG Event, students are working in shifts at non-profit organizations, private homes and Sandbag Central throughout the day.

The BIG Event was first established at Texas A&M University in 1982. It has since become the largest single-day, student-organized service event in the country.

NDSU students Katlyn Worral and Jordyn Geisenhof are co-chairs for the event. NDSU Alumni Association, Student Government and the Volunteer Network are sponsors. For more information, visit www.ndsubigevent.com.
