Writer Barbara Ehrenreich will discuss her work as journalist, historian and social critic Sept. 2 at 7 p.m. at North Dakota State University’s Festival Concert Hall. The lecture called “Women, Economics and Poverty: On (not) Getting by in America,” is free and open to the public.
Ehrenreich is a former columnist for Time and contributor to the New York Times, Atlantic Monthly and Salon.com, among others. Her 20 non-fiction books often explore the American workplace and social justice.
In her 2001 “Nickel and Dimed: On (not) Getting by in American,” she worked, blue-collar jobs to see what life was like for those working at $7 an hour, including working at a Minneapolis Wal-Mart.
